Couch to 5k 2013 - W5D3

Couch to 5k Week 5 Day 3
Warm Up - 5 Minutes
Run 7 Minutes, Walk 2 Minutes, Run 5 Minutes, Walk 2 Minutes, Run 7 Minutes - 23 Minutes
Cool Down - 5 Minutes

Ready to get back out there and see how my ankle holds up :)

Warm Up - 5 Minutes (.35)
Run 7 Min., Walk 2 Min., Run 5 Min., Walk 2 Min., Run 7 Min. (2.29)
Cool Down - 5 Minutes (.34)

It went alright.  It was really windy out and I was really nervous about my ankle.  However, my ankle held up okay!  My knee got a little wonky, but I survived.  I had a little bit of trouble pushing myself, though.

Did I mention I got a Garmin???  My brother upgraded, so he "sold" me his old one for a trip to Al's (a debt I have yet to pay).  I really like it so far.  I think it will be even more useful once I am done with the C25K thing and am back to running straight miles.  Soon :)

2013 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5k

Last Sunday was the third time I've run the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5k.  Oddly enough, this is the first time I've blogged about it (I didn't have a blog in 2011 and I left for Europe the next day last year)!  I'm not going to say a whole lot about it, but I will say this: it is a very tough race to run every year.  The course is flat and all, but there are SO MANY PEOPLE walking that you spend half the time weaving and dodging and wasting your energy to avoid running into them.  It just makes it tough.  Anyway, it was my first 5k in a LOOOOONG time, so I was content with how I did.

31:26 isn't a PR, by any means, but it also isn't my worst time either!  I'm content with it and excited to keep it up.  My ankle is giving me some trouble...so we will see how this goes...

Miss Me???

Where have you been, you ask?  Well, since my race on Sunday, I have had my ankle injury flare up a bit (especially with no rest thanks to work...).  I've finally figured out what it is (I think): Posterior Tibial Tendonitis.  After research, it pretty much sounds like what I've got.  I am no doctor and would never claim to be, but this is my best guess.  While I may not actually have tendonitis, the issue is most definitely involving that tendon!

It is really frustrating.  I am just getting back into the place I want to be and I get hurt again.  This time around, I've been being so careful (though maybe not exactly resting when I know I should...).  You know, it is really hard to run when you have a hard enough time walking without your ankle randomly collapsing under you with pain shooting through it.  I even bumped it weird in bed in the middle of the night which woke me right up!  I think I will see if I can dig out my old ankle brace for work today and worry about actually getting some rest tomorrow, perhaps.  We shall see :)

Have a lovely day!

1.96 Miles
18 Minutes
9:11/Mile

I felt like a BOSS on this run!  It was probably the best run I have had in a long time :)  I went into it, like always, telling myself that I would just take it a little easier because I've been so tired/sore the last few days.  I need to quit doubting myself because I tried to push a little and I felt really good.  We shall see how the race goes on Sunday.

Have a great day!

Couch to 5k 2013 - Switching It Up

Technically, I'm supposed to have done Week 5 Day 2 of the Couch to 5k today.  I, however, have a 5k race on Sunday, so I figured I would switch it up and do a slow little run on the treadmill to see if I can actually keep myself going for an extended period of time anymore.  The plan was to put that sucker on 6 mph and cruise (hopefully) for 2 miles (hopefully).

And?

Warm Up - 5 Minutes - 2 Min. @ 4 mph, 1 Min. @ 4.1 mph, 1 Min. @ 4.2 mph, 1 Min. @ 4.3 mph (.34)
Run 10 Min. @ 6 mph, Run 8 Min. @ 6.1 mph, 2 Min. @ 6.2 mph (2.02)
Cool Down - 5 Minutes - 2 Min. @ 4.3 mph, 1 Min. @ 4.2 mph, 1 Min. @ 4.1 mph, 1 Min. @ 4 mph (.35)

I got a horrible stitch in my right side before I even hit mile one, but I decided to push through it and bump up the speed a tiny bit for last last part.  We shall see how Sunday goes...  :)  A little BodBot work and now I'm headed outside for DAY 4 of yard work (never ending...especially since the previous owners never did anything!!!) before I start 5 days of work in a row (before 1 day off and then 3 more days).  Gotta get what I can done before the rain comes.

Let's do this!!!

Have a great day!!!

Couch to 5k 2013 - W5D1

Couch to 5k Week 5 Day 1
Warm Up - 5 Minutes
Run 5 Minutes, Walk 2 Minutes, Run 4 Minutes, Walk 2 Minutes, Run 5 Minutes, Walk 2 Minutes, Run 4 Minutes - 24 Minutes
Cool Down - 5 Minutes

Looked lovely out, so out I went (despite having a sore ankle...)

Warm Up - 5 Minutes (.34)
Run 5 Min., Walk 2 Min., Run 4 Min., Walk 2 Min. @ 4.3 mph, Run 5 Min. @ 7.2 mph, Walk 2 Min.@ 4.3 mph, Run 4 Min. @ 7.2 mph (2.51)
Cool Down - 5 Minutes - 2 Min. @ 4.3 mph, 1 Min. @ 4.2 mph, 1 Min. @ 4.1 mph, 1 Min. @ 4 mph (.35)

After the first run portion, my ankle and knee both started to act up, so I turned and continued back toward my house.  I was back after the second run portion, so I hoped inside on the treadmill for the rest of my workout.  My knee and ankle were sore the entire time, so I'm glad I came back to finish (and didn't end up a mile away from home with no way to get back!).  Got it done and that is what matters :)

We've been doing lots of work in the yard lately, including pulling out three giant dead juniper bushes last night.  It is taking a bit of a toll on my body.  OLD LADY, ALERT!!!  Now, out for some more yard work torture!

Run 4 Minutes, Walk 2 Minutes, Run 6 Minutes, Walk 3 Minutes, Run 4 Minutes - 19 Minutes
Cool Down - 5 Minutes

It is Friday, May 3rd, 2013.  It is snowing outside right now.  I treadmill-ed my run.

Run 4 Min. @ 7.2 mph, Walk 2 Min. @ 4.3 mph, Run 6 Min. @ 7 mph, Walk 3 Min. @ 4.3 mph, Run 3 Min. @ 7.2 mph, Run 1 Min. @ 8 mph (2.03)
Cool Down - 5 Minutes - 2 Min. @ 4.3 mph, 1 Min. @ 4.2 mph, 1 Min. @ 4.1 mph, 1 Min. @ 4 mph (.35)

Run felt...off.  My rib is still bothering me, but there isn't much I can do about that :(  Oh, well.  I can see I'm getting better each day :)  I did my BodBot workout after and sweat (again!) like a BEAST.  I think I might try a longer, slower run this week since I do have a 5k race next Sunday...hmmm...

Have a great day, everyone!!!

I've Been Thinking...

I don't have the time it takes to train for a Marathon this year...so maybe I was thinking of signing up for another half...  Thoughts?  Suggestions?

Lake Minnetonka Half is this weekend, which was my first half marathon last year, so I'm kinda getting the bug, I think...hmm...  Maybe see if I can beat that PR...

Couch to 5k Week 4 Day 2
Warm Up - 5 Minutes
Run 4 Minutes, Walk 2 Minutes, Run 6 Minutes, Walk 3 Minutes, Run 4 Minutes - 19 Minutes
Cool Down - 5 Minutes

I have to go in a bit early to work and I was freezing, so I thought I'd get my workout out of the way this morning :)

Warm Up - 5 Minutes - 3 Min. @ 4.2 mph, 2 Min. @ 4.3 mph (.35)
Run 4 Min. @ 7.2 mph, Walk 2 Min. @ 4.3 mph, Run 6 Min. @ 7 mph, Walk 3 Min. @ 4.3 mph, Run 4 Min. @ 7.2 mph (2.02)

Not too shabby and I didn't actually feel TERRIBLE during the run portions :)  I will say that I did, however, sweat like a BEAST!  Finished my run and did my leg workout from BodBot and now waiting to stop sweating so I can shower and get ready for work.  *woot*woot*

Have a lovely day!  And as Bean would sing, "Rain, rain, go away.  Come another next day."

Couch to 5k 2013 - W4D1

Couch to 5k Week 4 Day 1
Warm Up - 5 Minutes
Run 4 Minutes, Walk 2 Minutes, Run 6 Minutes, Walk 3 Minutes, Run 4 Minutes - 19 Minutes
Cool Down - 5 Minutes

Gorgeous morning out there!

Warm Up - 5 Minutes (.33)
Run 4 Minutes, Walk 2 Minutes, Run 6 Minutes, Walk 3 Minutes, Run 4 Minutes - 19 Minutes (2.01)
Cool Down - 5 Minutes (.34)

I almost quit in the middle of my first run.  I'm exhausted.  It was a busy 5 days at work and with yard work this weekend and trying to spend time with the family and not really sleeping...ugh...I'm pooped.  BUT I did it.  Even though I thought it was super slow, it wasn't.  This round of C25K is really helping to improve my pace!  Finished it up with my BodBot strength stuff and kazam...done for the day :)

Now, for some more yard work before the crummy weather hits again!

Couch to 5k 2013 - W3D3

Couch to 5k Week 3 Day 3
Warm Up - 5 Minutes
Run 3 Minutes, Walk 2 Minutes, Run 90 Seconds, Walk 2 Minutes - 17 Minutes
Cool Down - 5 Minutes

Sun was shining so OF COURSE I had to do this outside, right?!?

Warm Up - 5 Minutes (.32)
Run 3 Minutes, Walk 2 Minutes, Run 90 Seconds, Walk 2 Minutes - 17 Minutes (1.54)
Cool Down - 5 Minutes (.32)

It was pretty windy out there!  I felt okay during my workout, but I felt like I was having some trouble pushing myself to run at that higher pace.  After seeing that my overall distance was only .01 mile shorter compared to running on the treadmill this week, I was satisfied with the run.  I realized that I was probably having less trouble pushing to that higher speed and more trouble staying consistent with my speed.  I'm sure I had some firecracker moments in there, but I also know that I had some slower speeds, too...

I had a bunch of weight stuff to do from my BodBot, so that got done, too.  Glad tomorrow is a rest day (from running, anyway)!

I'm really hoping that this C25K redo (along with BodBot stuff) is serving its purpose...

Have a great rest of your Friday!

Cool Down - 5 Minutes

I wanted to run outside today before I had my coffee, etc (thought I'd feel productive).  I was freezing during my warm up and it was really windy, so I came inside and treadmill-ed the rest of it :)

Warm Up - 5 Minutes (.35 miles)

Run 3 Min. @ 7.5 mph, Walk 2 Min. @ 4.3 mph, Run 90 Sec. @ 7.6 mph, Walk 2 Min. @ 4.3 mph

Couch to 5k 2013 - W3D1

Couch to 5k Week 3 Day 1
Warm Up - 5 Minutes
Run 3 Minutes, Walk 2 Minutes, Run 90 Seconds, Walk 2 Minutes - 15 Minutes
Cool Down - 5 Minutes

I was sore from yesterday, but decided to get a jump on this weeks runs!

Warm Up - 5 Minutes - 1 Min. @ 4 mph, 2 Min. @ 4.1 mph, 2 Min. @ 4.2 mph (.34)
Run 3 Min. @ 7.5 mph, Walk 2 Min. @ 4.2 mph, Run 90 Sec. @ 7.5 mph, Walk 2 Min. @ 4.2 mph
Run 3 Min. @ 7.5 mph, Walk 2 Min. @ 4.3 mph, Run 90 Sec. @ 7.7 mph (1.55)
Cool Down - 5 Minutes - 2 Min. @ 4.2 mph, 2 Min. @ 4.1 mph, 1 Min. @ 4 mph (.34 miles)

It went pretty well.  I was glad I pushed myself through running at 7.5 mph for a longer period of time.  It is tough for me because I am normally slower than dirt, but I'm glad I'm doing it.

XOXO

I Forgot To Mention...

I realized now that I never officially made an announcement on my blog.  After years and years and years...

I GOT INTO NURSING SCHOOL!!!

I found out almost a month ago.  I start in this Fall 2013 and it is a program that will have me graduating in May 2015, ready to take my boards to be an RN.  I'm really excited, but I also know that the next two years are going to be tough for me and my family.  I couldn't be luckier, however, with the family I have.  I know I am going to be supported the entire way and I will be glad when I've finally accomplished the goal and can check the item off of my Bucket List.

Couch to 5k 2013 - W2D3

Couch to 5k Week 2 Day 3
Warm Up - 5 Minutes
Run 60 Seconds, Walk 90 Seconds, Run 90 Seconds, Walk 90 Seconds - 26 Minutes
Cool Down - 5 Minutes

I got it done outside this evening in the windy, rainy weather with the snow covered sidewalks (grrr...it is mid-April!).

Warm Up - 5 Minutes (.34 miles)
Run 60 Sec., Walk 90 Sec., Run 90 Sec., Walk 90 Sec. (2.45 miles)
Cool Down - 5 Minutes (.36 miles)

I didn't live up to my promise.  I did not finish the week by Friday as I had said I would.  Friday, Lilly begged to spend the day with me and I COULD NOT tell her know.  Aside from that, my rib issues were flaring up and I was worried about making it worse.  Eventually, Lee told me I was pushing too hard and to give myself a day to heal.  Saturday, I woke up with terrible back pain/high rib pain and we were gone all day, so the run didn't happen.  We have been gone all day today, too, but I was feeling pretty good and told myself that I needed to STOP. MAKING. EXCUSES. when I didn't have any.  My rib pain was gone and my back pain was mostly gone, so I got my ass out there and ran.  It was rainy.  It was windy.  But I did my run/walk workout and I'm glad :)

Have a great Sunday evening!

Couch to 5k 2013 - W2D2

Couch to 5k Week 2 Day 2
Warm Up - 5 Minutes
Run 60 Seconds, Walk 90 Seconds, Run 90 Seconds, Walk 90 Seconds - 26 Minutes
Cool Down - 5 Minutes

I almost skipped this run because I felt SO lazy and blah today, especially with it looking like THIS outside!

Mid-April in MN...Bean is NEVER going to get to play in her cottage!

Warm Up - 5 Minutes - 2 Min. @ 4 mph, 2 Min. @ 4.1 mph, 1 Min. @ 4.2 mph (.33 miles)
Run 60 Sec. @ 7.5 mph, Walk 90 Sec. @ 4 mph, Run 90 Sec. @ 7.5 mph, Walk 90 Sec. @ 4 mph (x4)
Run 60 Sec. @ 8 mph, Walk 90 Sec. @ 4 mph, Run 90 Sec. @ 7.7 mph (2.48 miles)
Cool Down - 5 Minutes - 2 Min. @ 4.2 mph, 2 Min. @ 4.1 mph, 1 Min. @ 4 mph (.34 miles)

Point is, I got it done and I'm still improving over where I was before.  I'm really trying to push myself through all this "I don't want to do it" and "I'm just going to do an easy run", but it is becoming difficult.  Maybe tomorrow I can just make myself do it first thing in the morning, eh?  Reward myself with my coffee???

Couch to 5k 2013 - W2D1

Couch to 5k Week 2 Day 1
Warm Up - 5 Minutes
Run 60 Seconds, Walk 90 Seconds, Run 90 Seconds, Walk 90 Seconds - 26 Minutes
Cool Down - 5 Minutes

Did it...

Warm Up - 5 Minutes - 2 Min. @ 4 mph, 2 Min. @ 4.1 mph, 1 Min. @ 4.2 mph (.33 miles)
Run 60 Sec. @ 7.5 mph, Walk 90 Sec. @ 4 mph, Run 90 Sec. @ 7.2, Walk 90 Sec. @ 4 mph (x4)
Run 60 Sec. @ 8 mph, Walk 90 Sec. @ 4 mph, Run 90 Sec. @ 7.5 mph (x1) (2.45 miles)
Cool Down - 5 Minutes - 2 Min. @ 4.2 mph, 2 Min. @ 4.1 mph, 1 Min. @ 4 mph (.34 miles)

Started off a bit rough, but went okay after a bit.  My right knee was getting a little tight, but it was fine.  I REALLY wanted to kick down my runs to, like, 7 mph, but I'm doing this to push myself so I wouldn't let my fat finger poke just the 7 on the tread.  I did it!

Have a nice day.

XOXO

And I spent a good chunk of that 5k thinking about what happened yesterday.  I don't even know how to process how screwed up people are...

Couch to 5k 2013 - W1D3

Couch to 5k Week 1 Day 3
Warm Up - 5 Minutes
Run 60 Seconds, Walk 90 Seconds - 21 Minutes
Cool Down - 5 Minutes

I've been putting this run off for a few days because I've been having some knee issues thanks to pushing myself a bit and then some of my leg strength training/weights.  I went into this run saying I would take it really easy, but then I started and felt SO GOOD, so I went for it :)

Warm Up - 5 Minutes - 2 Min. @ 4 mph, 2 Min. @ 4.1 mph, 1 Min. @ 4.2 mph (.33 miles)
Run 60 Sec. @ 7.5 mph, Walk 90 Sec. @ 4 mph (x4)
Run 40 Sec. @ 7.5 mph, Run 20 Sec. @ 8 mph, Walk 90 Sec. @ 4 mph (x2)
Run 30 Sec. @ 7.5 mph, Run 30 Sec. @ 8 mph, Walk 90 Sec. @ 4.2 mph (x2)
Run 60 Sec. @ 8 mph (x1) (1.95 miles)
Cool Down - 5 Minutes - 2 Min. @ 4.2 mph, 2 Min. @ 4.1 mph, 1 Min. @ 4 mph (.34 miles)

Like I said, I felt good, so I wanted to test myself.  I followed it with the strength stuff from my BodBot schedule (though I did remove one exercise that I KNOW kills my knees).  I'm going to try to get Week 2 done by Friday, so I plan to do W2D1 tomorrow.  I can do it!

Have a lovely week!

Couch to 5k 2013 - W1D2

Couch to 5k Week 1 Day 2
Warm Up - 5 Minutes
Run 60 Seconds, Walk 90 Seconds - 21 Minutes
Cool Down - 5 Minutes

I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY didn't want to do this.  Day 2 and I'm already dreading it?  Ugh...I had a very busy day yesterday with Bean and I slept like crap.  I did it anyway and...

Warm Up - 5 Minutes - 3 Min. @ 4 mph, 1 Min. @ 4.1 mph, 1 Min. @ 4.2 mph (.33 miles)
Run 45 Sec. @ 7.5 mph, Run 15 Sec. @ 8mph, Walk 90 Sec. @ 4 mph (x4)
Run 40 Sec. @ 7.5 mph, Run 20 Sec. @ 8 mph, Walk 90 Sec. @ 4.2 mph (x3)
Run 30 Sec. @ 7.5 mph, Run 30 Sec. @ 8 mph, Walk 90 Sec. @ 4.2 mph (x1)
Run 15 Sec. @ 7.5 mph, Run 30 Sec. @ 8 mph, Run 15 Sec. @ 8.5 mph (x1)
Cool Down - 5 Minutes - 1 Min. @ 4.3 mph, 1 Min. @ 4.2 mph, 1 Min. @ 4.1 mph, 1 Min. @ 4, 1 Min. @ 3.9 mph (.33 miles)

I hit some button in the middle of my run/walk cycle (I think I turned it into one of the preset workouts) and it reset my time and mileage!  GRRR!!!  I have no idea my mileage for the run/walk portion...total bummer...

I was happy, though, with this run and am glad I did it.  I was able to run for longer at faster speeds than the W1D1 workout, so that is a major positive!  KEEP IT UP!

Couch to 5k 2013 - W1D1

Couch to 5k Week 1 Day 1
Warm Up - 5 Minutes
Run 60 Seconds, Walk 90 Seconds - 21 Minutes
Cool Down - 5 Minutes

It went really well.  I did it on the treadmill and this is how it went...

Warm Up - 5 Minutes @ 4 mph (.33 miles)
Run 60 Seconds @ 7.5 mph, Walk 90 Seconds @ 4 mph (1.93 miles)
Cool Down - 5 Minutes @ 4-4.2 mph (.34 miles)

For my last three run segments, I ran at 7.5 for a bit and then bopped it up to 8 (and 8.5 during part of the last run).  I felt really good during this workout and it gives me hope that I can get close to where I was once again.  I will be able to go out for easy 3 mile runs again!

Join me and lets get this thing done :)

XOXO

Couch to 5k Redo

I want my running stamina back.

I also want my speed back.

I've come up with the idea to redo the Couch-To-5k program again.  Since I can still run about 2 miles if I have to, I figured this would help me build my speed and stamina again.  I'll be using the Ease into 5k App because that is what I used last time.

I'm REALLY trying to get back into a habit with this, but I just feel so worn down and lazy all the time now...ugh...

I'm making this a commitment, damnit!  And I will even come up with some sort of punishment if I don't finish it in the 8 weeks.

Start: Today! April 8, 2013
Finish: By June 2nd, 2013

I do have a 5k to run on May 12th, but still...maybe I will be motivated to run more than 3 times a week (hopefully).

Here we go...I'm doing this!

I weighed myself this morning.  I was curious to see where I was, as I have started to add in my workouts again, but my eating hasn't been great.  I also went to the doctor on Tuesday and was a little shocked of my weight (with clothes...).  Oh, yeah...did I mention that my wonderful husband and I are starting another weight loss challenge very soon?  We figured it would jump start both of us and add in some motivation.  Another weight loss challenge, you say?  We did a Jillian Michaels' 30 Day Shred Challenge in June 2011 and based the winning off of percent of weight lost.  We did another in November/December of that year and then January/February of 2012.

ANYWAY, back to my weight today...

144.6 lbs. :)

I just checked my weigh-ins page and found two things to be true:

  1. I tied (again) for my lowest weight in my adult life!  I weighed-in at 144.6 pounds on June 15th and July 13th of 2012!!!
  2. On March 7th, 2012, I weighed 144.8 pounds.  What does that mean?  I've maintained weight loss, people!!!
What did I weigh at the doctor on Tuesday, March 12, 2013?  Well, my above #1 wasn't 100% true.  I HIT A NEW LOW WEIGHT ON TUESDAY!!!  AT THE DOCTOR WITH MY CLOTHES ON!!!

144.2 pounds!!!

I was shocked.  I'm trying to use it as motivation in the sense of "you can totally drop some more pounds if you work a bit".  We will see how it goes.

Everyone have a great day!

XOXO

Not Quite the Weekend We Planned For...

Last Friday (as in the 22nd...not this last Friday), I was stressed...

No.

Stressed is putting it mildly.

Well...I was multi-tasking like a pro (homework/cleaning/laundry/etc) because we were having Lilly's birthday party on Saturday...when one thing seemed to topple my awesome tower.

As I was quickly tossing Lilly's laundry into the dryer, I feel something hit my toes with each handful I throw in there.  I stop and realize it is on my hands.  Gel gunk!  What the hell is this?  After a minute, I assume that Lilly accidentally put a toy in her wash.  I grab an extra laundry basket and start putting the clothes into it.  The gel is on EVERYTHING...and it is in both the washer and dryer and on the floor.  A short while in, I realize what the culprit is...A PULL-UP!!!...Lilly is back to wearing them at night.

Ever wash a Pull-Up?

See All That White Bead-Looking Stuff???
That is After I'd Shaken the Clothes

After all the clothes are in the basket, I quickly try to clean the machines out and the floor as best as I can.  Gross...awful...what the hell do I do?!?!  I run to my computer to Google...as I assume I am not the first Mom to do this...  I'm on the verge of tears because I have SO MUCH to get done in the next few hours and this is CERTAINLY not something I need to deal with right now.

My phone rings and it is Mom.

"Hi...  I just wanted you to know that I'm with your brother and we are at Urgent Care..."

I don't think my brother, who doesn't like going to the doctor, has seen once since 1974...when he was born...

"They think he might have to have his appendix out..."

*tears*

She tells me they are waiting for official word, but will keep me posted.  I ask if she can call me back with some good news, instead.

I decide to get as much of the Pull-Up cleanup done while I am waiting to here.  I run 3 HOT empty loads in the washer while I take the clothes outside for a good shakedown (in the Winter...in Minnesota...my neighbors probably really think I am a nut...).  I start running those puppies through the wash a couple times and try to finish some cleaning.  Oh, and while all this is going on, my phone rings again.

It is my Mom again.

"It is his appendix.  He is having a CT and they are scheduling something for today."

I call my husband and tell him that it is my brother's appendix and he has to have surgery and we are probably going to have to cancel Bean's party...  I don't know what else to do, so I keep cleaning.  And my phone rings again.

It is my brother.

"Just letting you know that I'm on my way to the hospital.  I guess they are waiting for me..."

Good, God...

I call Lee and tell him that we are going to the hospital as soon as he gets home.  He gets home a half hour early, we officially decide to cancel the party, we pack up, we go get Bean, and I call Mom to tell her that I will be dropped off at the hospital to wait with her and the other two will head to my sister's house (or as I liked to call it in my head this weekend "home-base").

We get there, I find Mom and she tells me that things went well, he is closed up and in recovery, but it was really bad.  I will spare the details because, that is a tale for my brother to tell.  He was in PACU for what seemed like forever, but eventually we got to see him and he was doing very well :)  He needed his rest, so Mom and I headed back to "home-base" and crashed for the night.

We were up and headed for the hospital in the morning (this time with my sister in tow).  He was doing well when we got there and was told that he could go home around three if lunch went well.  I forced him to order some food, yada yada, and he was out of there by 2.  We got him home and I stayed with him while Mom and Tammy ran to get his prescription and some food he could stomach.  I took his temp and it was a little high with all his moving around, but he crashed on the couch and got some sleep.  My brother-in-law came over to hang out with him while the three of us ladies went back to Tammy's house.  We were just getting ready to eat some delightful chicken tacos made by my husband when my phone rang...and it was my brother-in-law.

"His temp is 104.9..."

I yelled, "It's what?!?"  I had told him to make sure he takes it when he woke up.  I told him to call the hospital number ASAP, as it said to do so if it went above 101.

I got off the phone and told everyone what was going on.  Mom and I were in the Jeep on our way over there quicker than I remember...and we hit every. single. red. light.  We got there and his temp was just under 103.  They told him to go to Urgent Care, which was closed by now, so then he was waiting to hear back from his surgeon.  I thought we were going to head back to the hospital, but the on-call surgeon told him to relax a bit, take some ibuprofen and give it a few hours.  Luckily, after a few hours, his temp was around 101, which was good enough.  By morning, he was even lower, so he was all good, but still...quite a scare.  He is okay and, given some time, will be back to "normal" again...haha...my brother...normal...haha...

Lilly's party is rescheduled for this weekend, so NOBODY is allowed to drop any organs or anything again!

Try and Try Again

148.0 pounds this morning when I stepped on the scale.  I've been secretly prepping to hop back on the train again today.  What does that mean?  I'm going to try to start counting my calories again and, like my husband, I've signed up for BodBot.com to try to get me doing some activity.  Lee has been doing really well and staying pretty damn close to fully on-track, so I'm trying to be supportive and help myself, as well.

I started off my morning with 25 minutes or so of shoveling the driveway and after I finish my coffee, I plan to do workout Numero Uno from my BodBot.  We will see how it goes...  Still trying to get motivation and rid myself of the stupid fear of my knee still being trouble...sigh...

I'm Thinking About...

...running Chicago...

Am I crazy...

...considering how nervous I am about my knee?

...considering the price tag?  ($175 just for the registration fee + hotel + travel + food)!

...considering I have bombed my last two half marathons?

What is my deal???

Another Little Workout

I'm slooooowwwllly trying to get back into a running routine.  I did 1 mile on Tuesday and 1.25 miles today. I have prefaced each run with a .15 mile warm up walk.  I have followed each run with a .25 mile walk.  I am trying to take this very carefully.  I want to give my knee a chance to get back into it without hurting it right away.

After today's run, I did some strength training...trying to avoid using my knee.  Hopefully, I will feel okay tomorrow.

2013 Goals

I really haven't set any yet...

Just two floating in my mind...

1.  Get into Nursing School.

2.  Heal my knee, so I can run again...

I did run a mile tonight.  Just one, but I wanted to test out my knee.  I ran it really slow.  1.01 miles in 10:15. So far, my knee isn't too bad.  I walked for a quarter mile (slowly) afterward to keep my knee loose and then I soaked in an Epsom salt bath.  It may sound like overkill, but I'm terrified I am not going to be able to run again (WHO AM I???).

Get out there.

2012: A Year in Review

Let's recap 2012, shall we?

  1. Run 500 Miles in 2012
    • :( No dice - I ran about 367.5 miles in 2012.  Dailymile says I have gone 482 miles in 2012, but that includes my biking.  If you throw in the miles I walked or the miles I completed total in races (if I walk a race, I cut the mileage down that I added to mile running total), I did move over 500 miles this year.  I did not, however, RUN 500 miles in 2012...boo...damn knee injury and damn trip to Europe...
  2. Run a 10k
  3. Run a Half Marathon
  4. Complete a Duathlon
  5. Complete (at least) 12 Races
    • I completed 3 5k's, 1 7k, 1 10k, 1 10 Miler, 3 Half Marathons, 1 Duathlon, 1 Color Run and 1 Warrior Dash.
  6. Hit my Goal Weight of 130
    • I weighed in this morning (after a delicious New Year's Eve) at 151 pounds.  I didn't hit 130, but I did lose 2.6 pounds this year.
  7. Be a Better Mom
    • With a toddler, patience is key.  I've worked really hard on this and just spending more time with Bean in general.  It has been a good year :)
  8. Be a Better Wife
    • I was and still am trying to not be so stubborn and apologize when I go crazy :)
  9. Be a Better Friend
    • I tried to make more time for my friends this year despite everything else that was going on.  I also tried to be more accomadating and flexible.
  10. Be a Great Bridesmaid
    • I don't know if I was great, but I tried to be good. :)
  11. Get Into Nursing School
    • This was not my year... :(
  12.  Get a House
    • This WAS our year.  We have a great house that we really love!!!
  13. Pay Off a Student Loan
    • We did not pay off a student loan this year, but we had another year of paying of a good amount.  It was pretty much either pay off a student loan or get a house this year...
  14. Dress Better to Feel Better
    • I did dress better at my job, but it didn't make me feel better like I had hoped.
  15. Floss More
    • While I wasn't perfect, I was darn close!  I was really proud of how well I stuck to this goal in 2012.  Going to keep it up!!!

11 out of 15 goals completed isn't bad!  I'm okay with most of my progress this year.  What else did I do or accomplish???
  • No soda in 2012!
  • No fast food in 2012 (I maintain that pizza is NOT fast food...)!
  • Got a new job in the medical field that I think I will like and will help me get into nursing school!
  • Pretty much maintained my weight loss!

What will 2013 bring???  We will have to wait and find out!

XOXO
