2011 Monster Dash 5k

Yesterday, I ran the Monster Dash 5k.  It was one of the most fun runs I've done so far.  There were tons of people in tons of costumes...including us!

Sideline Superheros, at your service
Captain Ankle Roll (me), Super Side Stitch (Kali), and Batback (Christa)

We had a good time before the race hanging out and making the same comment repeatedly: "Oh, my God.  How the HELL do they plan on running in THAT?!?"  I still had the usual pre-race jitters (felt like I had to use the restroom repeatedly...had to check/re-check my ipod, outfit, sneakers, etc).  I hope I eventually can just get over those and just be able to run.

The course was great (see below), the weather was great (high 40's/low 50's) and the fall colors were gorgeous.

5k around Lake Harriet in Minneapolis, MN...BEAUTIFUL!

Best news the whole thing?!?

My time was 32:24!  46 seconds off of my previous time...

NEW PERSONAL RECORD FOR ME!!!

And this was despite the fact that I had to repeatedly pull up my awesome, metallic green leggings.  After about the first 50 feet, I knew the race was going to suck and that I'd be pulling up my pants the whole time.  I was right.  The stupid leggings not only kept slouching down, they also kept pulling down my underwear.  By about 100 yards, I could feel my underwear about mid-way down my rump.  Thank goodness for our nice capes because I had to (discreetly) reach my hands down my pants and pull up my underwear and then keep pulling up the leggings...all while trying to run...

Classy...

**Note to self: If you plan on running in costume, do a test run before your actual run...

Oh, and my first finisher medal!

Kiss me like you mean it...

I'm really glad I had Kali and Christa there.  I feels great to be running and know that some great people are totally sharing in your pain...

And a big thanks goes out to Lee, Sean and Derek for cheering us on/holding our stuff.  Way to go, supporters!

Estimated Total Miles14.1 Miles 12.43 Miles

It appears that the weather for Monster Dash will be chilly...but I can hope right?

Anywoo, I think I am going to set a running goal for 2012.  It is going to be a fairly easy running goal, but a goal nonetheless.  I will tell you when 2012 is a little closer.

I will be a runner.  I will be a runner.

I have decided that I should redo my blog.  I hate the format and think it looks really junky...blah...

Also, I have decided to stop posting my daily LoseIt! log.  I'm only going to post it when I go over my allotted calories (today aside, since we had our holiday party tasting and Kali told me to not even log it...).  Who wants to read that I had oatmeal for breakfast for the 8th day in a row, anyway?  Psh.

It am thinking of signing up for a 10k yet this year.  Thoughts?

Good night.

Changing It Up A Bit

Starting now, I won't be weighing in "officially" every Friday anymore.  I'm doing like my guuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrlll Kali does and weigh in's are now moving to twice a month on the 1st and 15th.  Wish me luck!

And on a side note, I had a successful weigh in this morning...

153.5 pounds!!!

I'm not going to let myself get too excited.  Fried Dinner is tomorrow, after all...
Still trying to figure out when I'm going to run this weekend.  Plan says today, but Tammy and I are going to see Atmosphere tonight!!!  I haven't seen them in probably...ehhhh...six years or so.  SOOOOO EXCITED!!!

Tomorrow morning run, perhaps?

Not a lot to say tonight since I am way tired.  Going to bed, so here is my log:

2 Down, 4 To Go!

It was cold and windy and I didn't feel good, but I did it.  And I made myself go further than I planned.

A cool cold 2.51 Miles

Let's check the countdown:

Monday, October 17: 2 Miles 2.22 Miles
Wednesday, October 19: 2 Miles 2.51 Miles
Friday, October 21: 2.5 Miles
Sunday, October 23: 2.5 Miles
Tuesday, October 25: 3.1 Miles
Thursday, October 27: 2 Miles
Saturday, October 29: MONSTER DASH

Estimated Total Miles: 14.1 Miles 14.83 Miles

Four more runs until Monster Dash!!!  I may have to adjust my weekend runs since I don't know that I will be home Friday after work.  My seeeeeester and I are going out.  I have no idea if we are going to see Atmosphere or her work buddy, but we are going out!

As for food this weekend, it is Fried Dinner for my brother's birthday.  Oh...glorious deliciousness that makes you feel guilty and hurt later.  BUT IT IS SO GOOD!!!  I plan on blogging about it...with pictures!

Today was fine, in the food realm.  Yes, I did have ice cream for lunch.  It was a rough day and Conny's Creamy Cone is closing on Saturday, so Kali and I went.  Deal with it.  It was delicious.  That is all I have for now.  Have a great evening!

Ho Hum

I went to the dentist this afternoon to find I had a cracked tooth.  I hate novocaine!  I hate when they give it to you in the upper part of your mouth and your eye goes numb...*sigh*  Anyway, I got to eat a little extra tonight, since I'm trying to stick between 1,200 and 1,600 for calories.  Mmm...Chocolate Malt O' Meal.  Have a good night.

Countdown

I have 12 days until the Monster Dash 5k!!!  This means I have to get my ass in gear!!!  So, I devised a plan that has me running every other day until the race, which means 6 times before the race.  Tonight, I ran which means I only have 5 runs left before my next big day.

2.22 Miles Around the Neighborhood

It was a nice run and I felt really good.  Maybe it was just me getting to blow off some aggression from another rough day at work, but it was good.  My pace kicked butt, too!  I had a pace of 10:22, which is good for me and not running for quite a while.

Anyway, back to my plan:

Monday, October 17: 2 Miles 2.22 Miles
Wednesday, October 19: 2 Miles
Friday, October 21: 2.5 Miles
Sunday, October 23: 2.5 Miles
Tuesday, October 25: 3.1 Miles
Thursday, October 27: 2 Miles
Saturday, October 29: MONSTER DASH

I will keep you posted on how my plan works out.  As you should realize by now, plans do generally go how they should with me, but we will see!

Friday, I didn't post my LoseIt! log since I was traveling to GB to see my in-laws, but I will have you know that I was, indeed, within my calorie budget.  Saturday and Sunday, however, I was well over.  We will leave it at that.  Here is today's log:

Alright, time to hit the showers and hit the hay.  Enjoy your evening!  I leave you with this to make you chortle...

For The First Time In My Life...

...MY ACTUAL WEIGHT IS LOWER THAN ON MY DRIVER'S LICENSE!!!

This morning, I hit my 155 mark.  I honestly don't remember ever weighing this little, but then again, the only weights I remember are 120 (in 4th grade, I think...) and then 170+ in high school/college.  I FINALLY met this goal and now I've set my next mini goal...

145 pounds

I know I can do it.

And FYI...I am pretty sore today...oh, Jillian Michaels...you terrify me and make me hurt...but I secretly love you...

Ripped? Ripped What?

What a day...  My hubby brought me Panera since he was in the area and it was delicious.  It was nice to have lunch with him again and break the day up a bit.  Did pretty good with the whole food situation today, if I do say so myself.

I tried my new DVD this morning.  Ripped in 30 kicked my ass...or rather...Jillian Michaels, once again, kicked my ass.  I have felt good all day, but I can now feel that I will be SORE tomorrow.

Speaking of tomorrow...weigh day!  I think I might hit my next goal...so WISH ME LUCK!!!

Taco-Flavored Kisses

Today, I learned that if you are careful what you have on your tacos, you can have four of them, just about fully loaded, and still come in under your calorie budget.  I FREAKIN' LOVE TACOS!!!  Most definitely one of my weaknesses...

And I way over-accounted for the taco accouterments...

It was a rather long day today, so I am going to go watch NCIS DVDs with Lee (I'll eventually catch up, right?!?).

On a side note, you will notice I did not run today.  It has been raining since about noon today.  If it is still raining in the morning, I think I might try my bod at some Ripped In 30 (thank you, Ms. Michaels).

Have a great night!

Small Victories

Quite an uneventful day, but I said I was going to post my food, so here it is:

Getting a little more balanced...

I came in under my daily allowance and refused to eat a monster cookie (small victory!)...even though it looked REALLY GOOD!

Kali and I had a discussion about how we need to celebrate the small victories because those are the ones that we notice and that truly matter.

Example...

Putting on my black knee-high boots last week and finding that they are too big in the leg area now.  Felt like I should be stuffing some newspaper in there to make them not look odd!

Or getting to buy a shirt a size smaller than I used to because I now swim in the shirts that used to be so tight!

HEY, YOU!

Smile and celebrate the small victories...health or otherwise!

Also, a bit of random for you before I head to bed...

Best. Mugshot. Ever.

Have a great night :)

And I Ran...I Ran So Far Away

I did it!  I got out there today, as promised, and ran!  I know I shouldn't be so excited...it should be natural for me...but it isn't, so I'm excited I did it!

The running portion of my workout...

I ran 1.55 miles in 16:11.  That puts my pace at about 10:27 per mile.  For not running in three weeks, I'm okay with that.  My total workout (including my walk) was 1.96 miles.  Not terrible for my first time back on the horse and having a time crunch.  I can do this!

And for the secret "holding-the-Cookie-Girl-more-accountable" thing that I mentioned earlier today, I give you...my Lose It! log:

I ate how many carbs...?!?!?

The running log isn't quite right.  My pace was a minute/mile faster and a minute longer, but it isn't very exact when you log it.  Also, I prefer to round up with calories I'm not positive on (or over-budget).  I'd rather find out I entered too many calories than I didn't enter enough.  That is that for now.

Day 1 of being back on track: DONE!

XOXO

I Swear It Isn’t An Excuse!

Monday I blogged about “no more excuses” and getting back on track and I had full intentions of doing so.  Monday was gorgeous out, so I was going to stop at Target and then head home and go for a run before dinner.

FAIL!

I was 3 miles from home waiting at a stoplight in front of the high school when I glanced in my rearview mirror and said, “Oh, $#!*...”  There was a white truck headed for me at a good clip and he wasn’t stopping.  I tried to slightly pull to the left, but that would have been into oncoming traffic.  I gripped the steering wheel and tightened up my whole body for the impact…and he hit me…

He hit my new car…my poor baby…my 2012 Ford Focus…and no, that is not a bullet hole (though I have NO idea what poked it...)...

Apparently…it was a dealer car and it was a huge mess, but we are getting it taken care of.  I thank God that Lee picked up Lilly that day and she wasn’t with me.  I’m alright except for a sore back for a few days and this…

I get in a car accident and I get a bruise the size of a dime.  Seriously?!?  The girl who bumps into something and that body part turns black and blue!  And less than a week later, it is just about gone!  *sigh*  Regardless, I’m glad I’m okay.  The sore back kept me from getting back into a workout regimen.  To be honest, last week was rough and even after my back was better, I was just way worn out physically and emotionally.

But today is the day!  I'm getting back on track with my calorie counting and watching what I'm eating and exercising.  Unless I break an ankle or get hit by a bus (*knocks on wood*), I'm going for a run tonight and perhaps doing some Jillian...?!?  I have an idea of how to keep myself more accountable, but we will see how it goes and you may be seeing another post from me tonight.  After all, I have 19 days until the Monster Dash 5k (and the costume pieces are starting to fall into place)!!!

Wish me luck!!!

I Pretty Much Suck...

It has been a rough couple of weeks...

I know I'm always quick to offer up excuses, but things have been a bit tough lately.  We have had some stressful stuff going on with Lee's job which has stressed me out...big time...  Super stress leads me to have even more trouble sleeping.  EXTREME lack of sleep leads to a weakened immune system...leads to...

Katie being sick.

I promised myself early last week that I would hop back on my running train...and then I got sick...because I suck.  I'm getting better, but I need to just hop back on track.

No excuses.

I'm not going to be changing my life by falling back in the same shitty patterns that I allow myself to fall into time after time.

Making excuses.

Eating like crap.

Being Lazy.

My family deserves better from me than that.  My baby girl deserves a better role model.  I need to change and I need help staying on track...I clearly suck at this...

This week I'm dedicating to getting better and sliding back on track.  How am I making my transition back?

  • Drinking More Water - A HUGE KEY TO MY SUCCESS
  • Getting Myself Well Again - If it doesn't hurt me to sit/stand, it will be easier to work out
  • Friday Weigh-Days Are Back - If I'm seeing where I'm at, it will keep me motivated
  • Listening To Jillian Again - Listening to her podcasts makes me WANT to be more healthy

I've been trying to drink more water today...not too successfully.  I will work on it.  Also, I've been listening to the Jillian Michaels podcasts that I've missed recently.  I'm hoping it will just *HIT* me, ya know?

I also bought the Ripped in 30 DVD last week with full intentions of starting to incorporate it in my routine last week.  Stupid getting sick...grrr...

I'm going to do better.  I will keep you all in the loop on how things go...

XOXO
