Miss Me???

Where have you been, you ask?  Well, since my race on Sunday, I have had my ankle injury flare up a bit (especially with no rest thanks to work...).  I've finally figured out what it is (I think): Posterior Tibial Tendonitis.  After research, it pretty much sounds like what I've got.  I am no doctor and would never claim to be, but this is my best guess.  While I may not actually have tendonitis, the issue is most definitely involving that tendon!

It is really frustrating.  I am just getting back into the place I want to be and I get hurt again.  This time around, I've been being so careful (though maybe not exactly resting when I know I should...).  You know, it is really hard to run when you have a hard enough time walking without your ankle randomly collapsing under you with pain shooting through it.  I even bumped it weird in bed in the middle of the night which woke me right up!  I think I will see if I can dig out my old ankle brace for work today and worry about actually getting some rest tomorrow, perhaps.  We shall see :)

Have a lovely day!

XOXO

Update Shmupdate

In five days I will be running the Monster Dash Half Marathon.  It will be the fifth and final race in me and Jason's 2012 Monster Race Series and my third half marathon.  I was totally pumped for months...knowing that I would definitely PR for this one...get in under 2:30 even!  Now, I'm getting more and more worried.

My knee has been bad.  And I don't mean my normal nagging pain...I mean pretty bad.  I've had some trouble lately with it buckeling and just general pain.  Saturday evening, after our housewarming party and being on my feet all day, I could barely hobble to the couch to put it up.  I was supposed to do a 5-8 mile run with Jason on Sunday morning, but I was just too scared and my knee was still bugging me.  Lee thinks I tore something and should see a doctor.  Coming from the guy who has had two knee surgeries (ACL and meniscus)...do I listen?  I'm thinking that I wait until Monday to make an appointment.  There is NO WAY that I'm chancing being told I cannot run on Saturday.

Here is my attack plan for this week:
  • Run a few 3-5 milers
  • Chill out with my knee up
  • Do a little heat and ice
  • Eat well to help combat the lack of running
I'm still super hopeful that I will do decent in this race, but we will see.  I'll make sure I am prepped great the night before and super ready to just go in the morning, so I can be in downtown St. Paul well before the 8:30 start.  I am confident that I can force myself to at least do better than when I was injured and on my deathbed for the Minneapolis Half Marathon, eh?

Wish me luck and all that jazz.  We are looking at 45° F for a high on Saturday...so I'm sure the early morning will be nice and frosty.  I need to go purchase a new pair of running capris since my old ones are far too big.  Hmm...here we go.  Countdown begins!

Knee Problems

I'm having them...and I don't know what to do...

Keep on trying to truck with my training schedule for the Monster Dash Half in two weeks?

~OR~

Take it easy with my run schedule, so I can actually run the Monster Dash Half in two weeks?

Why can't I just not have crappy joints...???

Why Do I Love Kali and Sara?

Because I'm sitting at work having a three-way IM conversation with them and laughing.  A LOT!  Like actually LoL-ing.  And making jokes.  And I received a beautiful, delicious blueberry muffin this morning.  And a really nice magnet quote.  And I'm not thinking as much about...

The fact that I have a brace on my ankle this morning.

Or that I had to sleep with my leg propped up last night.

With ice on it.

And popped three Tylenol.

When I really don't take medicine unless I absolutely have to.

And that I dropped an F-Bomb in front of my Dad last night.

And he didn't even flinch because he knew EXACTLY where I was at during that moment.

With the tears and snot pouring down my face.

After I butt-slid down two flights of stairs in my robe.

Since it was the only way I could get down the stairs.

As I couldn't walk...

Because I rolled my fucking ankle at 10 p.m.

And I have a 12 mile run tomorrow...

Seriously?

7 Miles on a Wednesday Evening

I had a nice 7 mile run on the treadmill last night.  I really didn't want to do it, but I did it...especially after Lee said something along the lines of "You know you will be disappointed in yourself if you don't do it".  That made me do it.

It went great.  Felt good during the run and ran it in 1:04:50.  That's a pace of 9:15 per mile!  I've been trying to do some of my non-long/weekday runs at a higher pace, espcially on the treadmill where I can force myself to stay at the higher pace or risk falling off and getting treadmill burn!

(I'm not kidding...I seriously have nightmares that I will trip, slip off the back, and end up with treadmill burn on my entire face because the thing won't turn off and I'll be stuck!!!  Irrational???).

Anyway, after my run, I was fine, but as soon as I got upstairs, my left quad is really sore.  I don't know if it is because I didn't stretch enough after my run, or what, but it really hurts.

My Luurrrrrrrvvvveeeer for the Day (Along with my Coffee)

I'm going to try to get my scheduled 3 mile in today, but if I need to, I will err on the side of resting since I have my 12 mile (!!!) on Saturday...  Cross your fingers, so my leg will be better by the evening!  We are going to see Jess, Jerrod, Aiden and Bella tonight (Lilly is really excited!!!), so I have a little more time than usual.

XOXO
